Stand may represent a variant on the Quercus falcata - Pinus taeda / Gaylussacia frondosa theme. Instead of dense low heath layer, ground cover is virtually absent, and scattered clumps of Vaccinium constitute most of the shrub stratum, becoming more dense, robust, and taxonomically challenging at far end of plot. Although V. stamineum is most abundant species, this stand supports a remarkable eight species of Vaccinium. Most P. taeda individuals are emergent through the Q. falcata canopy. Q. laevis is definitely located within 10 m of plot, and several individuals identified as pure Q. falcata may contain laevis genes. Stand appears to extend for several hundred meters north-south, but to be fairly narrow (< 100 m?) east-west.
